Don't forget that Russian doctrine proscribed multiple weapons for specific cities to compensate for errors in targeting or complete missle failures.

Reply with quote | #5 | National Geographic had a great special on the contingency plans following a nuclear attack on Washington DC. I'm trying to find the name of it but no luck. If you get the chance, I recommend it. __________________ "When the shit goes down, you better be ready." -Cypress Hill

Ahhhh shitty. I focused my impact on Camp Pendleton, which is the military base nextdoor to my city. If they get hit with the 750 kt, it'll blow out almost 40 miles in every direction, more than likely blowing my house and college to shit.

I just realized that my last post there was bullshit. The map is fucked up (at least on my browser). Every time I zoom out the circles are still there. So if I zoom out all the way, the website tells me that a 250 kiloton nuke will destroy every piece of land on Earth.
In other news, this is another good site for nuclear fallout information: http://www.nationalterroralert.com/nuclear/ FYI - 1 megaton = 1000 kilotons. Good shit to know. In a 1 megaton explosion, while the destructive radius is under 10 miles (I assume square), the radioactive fallout will fuck shit up for another 160 miles around, depending on wind speed and direction.

Reply with quote | #9 | If you live in California, you might as well bend over and kiss it goodbye.
From San Fran to San Diego, an attacking nuclear power would make sure that every possible city (medium to large) and military base would be hit. All those bombs are sure to trigger the faults, so you have to toss in major earthquakes into the survival question. Off-shore nuclear weapon misses would create huge tsunami's as the blast wave spreads out. Towering walls of water would flatten what is left, assuming the land had not already dropped into the Pacific. Get the picture. There is no place to run...
When I was a kid before the end of the cold war, I would wake up at night from nightmares; heart pounding in my chest. I thought I could actually hear the air-raid sirens going off in the distance. Some of you kids on this site did not have to practice hiding under your school desk when the sirens went off. We did!
Like you, ZombieHunter, where I live is near an unsurvivable region, so I knew that within 30 minutes (i.e. average time for an ICBM to come over the Arctic Ocean) of the start of a nuclear war, I would be dead.
God bless Pres. Reagan for winning the Cold War. Now, we just have to worry about some sword-rattling Russians (can you say, Georgia) and those crafty Chinese versus Taiwan...

Woohoo. __________________

Seriously, nuclear facilities are THE primary targets; Sandia, Hanford, Los Alamos, Oak Ridge, etc., etc. __________________ "A man without a silencer on his weapon is carrier chow." |
