I read a lot of talk about bugout bags on this site. Since we all realize a Zpaw is just fiction (we DO all realize that, right?) then what does everyone expect to bugout from?

Why??? Consider....
California-Forest Fire, Mud Slides, Pacific Hurricanes and Earthquakes
Mountain Areas of US-Forest Fires, Landslides and Avalanches
Southern/Eastern US-Hurricanes
Central US-Madrid Fault Earthquake
Most of America-Floods and Tornadoes
Etc...

I have an emergency kit with all the standard stuff, bottled water, freeze dried food, first aid, etc etc etc. I don't have it all set up in a backpack with the intent of high-tailing it from some un-named calamity. I live in Maryland. We don't have mudslides, forest fires, tsunami's, or other natural disasters. Terrorists are a possiblity, but where are you going to go if there is a terrorist attack? In laws? Maybe.

Here's a better question: Why not? Is there any good reason NOT to be prepared?

Good choice using the CamelBak design with MOLLE attachment points...

Good choice Sage!

Now back to the question, bug out bag. Yes, Virginia, Zombies are not real, I wish the only threat we had to worry about was so simple.

Off on a rant - - - - run

I lived on the gulf coast of Alabama for about 30 years. I've been a "survival type" since my entry into the cub scouts at age ? 7? BE PREPARED is more than two random words strung into a statement. Being prepared to stand alone to help others in the event of national emergency is EVERY AMERICANS FUCKING DUTY. YOU ARE THE POLICE,FIRE,EMS and the Red Cross.
WTSHF nobody can arrive to save your ass faster then YOU. During one of the Hurricanes ? too many to count -the Local PD sent an officer to ask me if they could borrow my RV so the Officers could get some sleep (AC) and eat as they were on Port/Starboard watches (12on/12off) and the city had NO electrical service/food/ice/fuel. So being the good civic minded person I am i let them use it for 5 days.(till the power came back on) I also slept there as I was guarding my own business after dark till dawn as well. (armed and BR vest) to keep order in a location that was under my control.
Upon getting my RV back filled with 125 gallons of gas - Thank you POLICE.  My Father and my neighbors kept watch on our neighborhood (Armed w/ rifles, using cars to block the streets) After the initial shock the Officers and ANG we're glad to see us, cause it was one less area to watch until the lights came back on and everything went back to "normal". The power was off in my area for 14 days. (try it sometime in mid summer) NO gas, NO stores, NO Internet, NO cable, NO PHONE,Cellphones were over jammed and you could not get on unless you sat for hours hitting SEND and got lucky. CB's came back into vogue for a week or two.lol. If needed you could go down to the ANG station and get MRES and water.(no ammo though darn it!)

During this 14 day period I used every piece of "nutty" survival equiptment I owned while also seeing the need for a few more things that I had missed. Handheld CB, Solar shower, MORE toliet paper!

Crime was up, arson, you name it, it happened. Luckily, we're more civilized than "Chocolate City" La. Of course no one reported any of the local bad stuff, funny how that works huh?

I don't mean to yell "fire" in a crowed theater but I think alot of you don't know how fast the wheels can come off the truck. Don't delude yourself into believing the US Gmt can save you, if things goto shit on a large scale.

STAND UP! BE AMERICANS!

me and my dad have our bags full of survival gear and ammo. If the power goes out, terrorist attacks, nuclear power plant melt down. Its good to have the bare necessities already together and ready to go. And we have our firearms to protect our family. So i think its better to be prepared. Thats why we have bug-out bags.

Hey, redneck, I never said or implied a bugout bag was nutty. I was just wondering what everyone wanted to bugout from. I heartilt agree, preparation is of paramount importance. I think zombie hunter said it best. Why not? Good answer.

Well said, RedneckZombieHunter!!

Sometimes Americans forget that WE are responsible for our own safety and survival.

Depending on the government in a major crisis is the fastest way to get dead quick.

P.S. I learned about the need for extra toilet paper while camping as a kid.  Leaves scratch bad.
