well I am a collator of weapons and i am looking at getting a wood daito sword or the cold steel  Bokken so i can have something i can take to anime con, medieval fairs and play.  Can a  Hardwood training sword(it says it around 40" Overall Solid wood  with the one being Oak wood, Black wood, Red Oak wood with Bushido engraved onto the blade) be used as a weapon like in high school of the dead  to kill the undead and if so is it about the same as a wood  baseball bat? also is a bokken  the same as these kinds of swords?  I found this about bokkens:it can still be deadly, and any training with a bokken should be done with due care. Injuries occurring from bokken are very similar to those caused by clubs and similar battering weapons and include compound fractures, ruptured organs, and other such blunt force injuries. In some ways a bokken can be more dangerous as the injuries caused are often unseen.

Down to the basics of the wooden swords:  They're wooden clubs with the shape of a sword.  As with any club, they can be quite deadly.

As to if you could use them like Saeko Busujima, maybe if you were a kendo expert and starred in an anime.  It would work, IMO.  However, there are better weapons out there.  Also, the wood in it would eventually fatigue from all the shock if you used it a lot.

On the subject of blunt weapons: would it be legal to carry a baton while inebriated?

Been searching for the answer for the last 5 mins (yeah, I know, not a long while but whatever) and cannot find the word.

check your local laws. In connecticut, you can NOT carry a baton or club if you are not L.E. BUT, if you have a short baseball bat in your car, thats a sporting good, not a weapon

Yeah, they say that if you're gonna carry a bat in your car, carry a baseball glove and a ball next to it and you're set.

most states (or so i was told) you can shoot a man with your 12ga attacking you and that OK. hit that same man with a baton or club and you will go to jail. I have seen people(i work at a grocery store and carrying out there stuff i get to see the inside of a lot of cars) carrying tire thumpers, fish bats and all kinds of blunt weapons(one woman had a butcher knife in her hand bag and this other one a meat cleaver).  Really if it's a weapon that was "on hand" then more then liky you would be OK, but carry anything that law says you can't carry is always a VERY bad idea.

In Florida it a 2nd degree felony to carry any baton or club as a weapon for humans.

after doing some research(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokken), I getting the cold steel  Bokken becuase it has been demonstrated being  capable of destroying concrete blocks and loading pallets(watched the coldsteel video) and it does not look like a weapon so i could wear it at the medieval fairs(unlike my  blunt   and un-sharpened  elegant golden phoenix   daisho Japanese sword set)

did you know Bokken are currently issued to the Los Angeles Police Mounted Unit for use as batons?

I believe you were told wrong. The laws vary state to state, and town by town.

Yeah, it all depends on your state and local laws.

In Texas; firearms are perfectly legal to carry in your car and use for self-defense, but clubs are considered an illegal weapon.

Be careful ordering cold steel items. I have plenty of cold steel weapons and they are a good company, but the videos are not always truthful. Oh and all the malformed weapons that are not in good condition are still sold regardless of condition.

it would be better to try to get a steel or iron version some of those Japanese weapons since wood weapons degrade faster especially when you are doing constant head blows with them, remember those are training weapons made for body/light contact shots, sustained headshots will cause them to breakdown fast.
