Not much going on the site lately so I thought I would catch up with what I have been doing. About a month ago I started tearing off the old siding on my house. The birds snakes and mice have made a mess of things. Put in new insulation where needed and skinned the entire house with half inch plywood and new windows. pulled out a lot of bird nests including a nest of young hawks. Sprayed insect repellent in the cavities before the plywood. currently finishing the tyvec vapor barrier. New siding will be coming next week.
It's been quite and challenge working alone most of the time. My daughter her husband and 4 grand kids have been visiting during this time. So it's been a nice change of pace around here.

Anyway when I am done I will feel more secure come the zpaw.

alex51: Beastmaster.

I've been livin the dream as well.  Trying to make my numbers so I can get a piece of that bonus program they just initiated at work.  We just got a new manager who's, you know, not perfect.  But it's such a relief to have a boss who's not afraid to get his hands dirty.  He's very green, but he's knowledgeable and hard working, so it's cool when a guy like that expects you to do the same.

Also my living situation is about to change.  An old friend of mine is trying to leave her abusive husband, so she's going to be staying in my extra room for a couple of months to get on her feet.  The chunk of rent and power that she will pay will enable me to pay off my taxes (both state and federal) and hopefully get me started towards paying off the debts I have with my bank, my realty company, and my student loans.  Just that little push and I might not always have to say "maybe next year" when you guys talk about conventions and meet-ups.  So a mixed bag definitely.  I hate to profit off of her shitty situation, but I think it'll work out for the best for all parties.

Throwing my brush hat in the ring.

Been away for awhile, and got back a few months back.  Was doing some contract work for the govt and it really helped out with the bills, and another vet buddy helped me secure it.  Man, I've never more tired. Long ass days.  Through some connections I was able to get out of my contract (I had just renewed for a second year) and used my veteran's preference to get a job as a mailman with the postal service.   So, that's what I'm doing nowadays and let me tell ya, when I see cars parked in front of the mailboxes, I mentally reach for that 40mm grenade launcher and blow the fuck out of that thing.   :)   Don't block the boxes please....or else.

It's amazing how life can change from good, to suck, to good, to suck, to good again within the space of days, weeks, and years.  Recently I've had the opportunity to see that in play, for myself, and lots of foreign nationals.  Reminded me of when I got back from first overseas deployment 20 some years ago and how so many Americans took shit for granted.  Things haven't changed.  Nice thing though, I managed to get through about a hundred books and movies on my "to-watch/read" list.

Domestically, I have found that I enjoy going to the beach again.  Daytona Beach in the house!  Going there Sunday actually, if your in the neighborhood.  Just finished a PP book, "Domain of the Dead"....not bad, though with a few cliches, but not bad....but needs work.  Maybe in a sequel.

Finally got around to finishing the last book in the MSS series....in case you missed that other post.  Not bad, needs a bit of tweeking, but it could have promise to another series if there were a few changes.

In the last three months I've found that this florida heat, mixed with rain, has an amazing talent for making grass grow...quickly.    I've become re-acquainted with my lawn mower...and let me tell ya, it's a bitch to push when your drunk...those neat lines don't always end up as neat as you thought...at least looking back the next day.

And to tie this in with Alex's post....you'd be amazed at how many people have mailboxes mounted to the side of their houses that birds, and mice, make nests in....then, how many of people then put baskets out and ask for us to put their mail in them, leaving the critters in the actual box.  Fucking amazing.  :)

Everything has been going smooth with myself and family.  Been expecting something to come ruin that any day now.

Also, Alex, are you on the Facebook group for Morningstar?

Yes, but I don't go on Facebook unless I get a notice about something in email.

Life Sucks Sometimes...

So I have been in the hospital twice this year for about a week each time, but am doing better, thank you Jesus. If you don't have your health, you don't have anything.

Consulting work has been hard to come by this summer with my health issues and so debts are piling up.  Waiting to hear whether or not I made the short list for a full time position at a major university here, but with my luck, I am not holding my breath.

Never heard from Alex about that August Chicago area convention get together for MSS people. I assumed people couldn't make it, but it would have been a nice diversion from the routine.

Recently, I had just come off the highway doing 65-75MPH, then doing around 35-40 on a local road for a mile or so, when my Jeep tire had a major blowout.

[BlownJeepTire]

Don't tell me there are no Angels. I would be dead if this happened on the highway.  That's not all however.

My tire lug nuts were so rusted that my Jeep lug wrench broke and a spare cheapo 4way-wrench I had in the Jeep also broke.  A local maintenance man from a nearby building tried his bigger lug wrench and a pipe for torque. No joy. In fact, the lug nut's chrome cap came off, so now all lug wrenches would not fit.

$250 later (after a tow and a shop fee to remove and replace some lug nuts), they were able to put on the spare and I could then drive it home.  Now in the process (getting prices, install quotes, etc.) of replacing all my tires...Hope the blown tire wheel is not warped or bent!

The Lesson Learned: Check tires for dry rot and rotate at least once a year. Replace lug nuts that look weird, warped or whatever. Work out to get more strength to turn very tight lug nuts with wrench.  [frown]

In the meantime, I am catching up on books I have wanted to read (e.g. Taylor Anderson's latest books on the Destroyerman series set on a parallel Earth, a copy of John Ringo's first Zombie book, etc.).  I am also now trying to figure out if my two laptops and desktop can be migrated to Win 7.0 when Microsoft stops supporting Win XP next April.  XP will then be too dangerous to run with all the hacker jerks out there.

Hope MS delays again, since the specs for Win 7.0 may mean exasperating driver updates, some $$$ hardware upgrades or even a new PC to run Win 8.1 when its released late this year (8.0's touch interface sucks I think).

Finally, I created a Facebook page, so my family would stay in touch.  That was a mistake...what a time hog reading everyone's musings.  I thought my life was boring, but some people think a new recipe they cooked is the event of a lifetime. Give me a break!!!

Hope everyone on the site are healthy, wealthy and wise.  [smile]

It has been a crazy year....after my wreck...it took about a year to get back to normal.  Was out of work for 6 months.  Remodeled my house last Christmas and that was a bad time to do that...lol.  My dad died in May very unexpectedly and I spent the whole summer cleaning out both of my parents houses and trying not to kill my sister who is a BITCH....  sorry...I won't go off on that tangent.  Have been really involved in dog rescue and fostering dogs as those of you that are on facebook have seen and probably hate all my dogs that need homes photos.  Now summer is over, buying some property closer to my house to move my horses on to and that will bring tons of work to build an arena, sheds, pastures breaks...blah blah blah. And it has already snowed here once.  Spending lots of time with Grandkids.... and going to a Denver Bronco's game in November which will be a blast...
Been reading lots of books off amazon....  Zombie, end of the world, apocalyptic books.  I get free ones, and there are lots of cheap ones up to like 3.99.  Some are so bad I have to work hard to finish.  Some have been really good and were cheap.   I hate that most of these type of writers have multiple books in the series...it is frustrating to wait.  I read 2 of the Angry American's books, Going Home and Staying Home and they were good.
This site was blocked at my work for a long time...now it is back...YAY!!!  I've missed you guys.

Still thinking about all you guys and wondering how your all doing.

I am literally driving the short bus for the county transit. Doesn't pay big bucks but it is a nice easy stress free job and the people are great.

Finally got around to dry walling my kitchen ceiling where the leaks from the old roof screwed it up.

Looking forward to the series the Strain. I read the books and they were quite good.

Daughter and grand kids are coming out to stay for a few weeks this summer. That will be very nice.

Did anyone watch the series Fargo on FX? If not I would highly recommend it. It's over but you should be able to stream it from somewhere.

So I hope all of you are doing very well and would like to hear what mischief you've been getting into.
