In that particular situation with walkers all around and less than a 50% chance he survives the trauma of a shredded leg. I would shoot him.

If there was no other danger around then I might try to save him.

The only reason I'd kill him is if I worried that he'd slow the group down if we ever had to leave the barn.  Otherwise I think they did the right thing.  They can patch him up and take him back to his group and let him be the messenger of peace between the two groups.  "Starting a war" like Shane said would be my biggest fear.

Also, you don't have to cut the whole leg off right then and there.  The spike is on one side of the bone or the other.  Cut through the meat and move it out sideways.  Worry about the rest later.

Lol I was thinking the same thing.  When the melodrama kicked back up in the last half of the episode, I said if I were Hersh I might let a few walkers trickle in through the fence to give these crazy asses something to focus on.

I hate to say it, but I think Shanes time is coming to an end.  He is a supreme bad ass we know that, but I think we are going to see just how bad ass Rick really is when he takes Shane down (just a guess).  It will cement Ricks place as the leader and take care of the problem with Shane.

Agreed.  My prediction: Shane dies at the end of this season.  That's why they had the shootout in the bar, to show that Rick can handle shit.

This show really took a dump on the walking dead comic.  When dale was going to toss the guns in the water i really started to hate the show.

my prediction is Dave and Tony's gang(the people they killed in the bar) will find them on the farm and there going to be a free for all of killing.

Did I miss something I thought Dale was just going to hide the guns? I can't imagine him throwing them away for good.

He went down to the swamp, had the guns wrapped in garbage bags and was about to start nailing a nail to the tree to hang the guns from when Shane came by.  He was not going to throw them in the water, he was nailing the bag they were in on the tree by the swamp.

I heard a rumor about tonight's episode.  I wasn't actively looking for it, somebody just threw it up to be read.

But if you're interested and can't wait another 6 hours I have a POSSIBLE SPOILER for you:

**SPOILER** highlight to reveal:
"so they announced that David Morrissey is going to play the governor.  i looked at his imdb and it says his first episode is season 2 episode 10 titled 18 miles."

edit: this might not pertain only to episode #10, so be wary when you look.

Well at least they managed to successfully transfer her character from the comics to the series.

This may be the best episode so far in this series.

I loved the whole thing.  The talk between Shane and Rick.  Shane showed some real emotion and Rick handing him the gun telling him he 'needs to come back' complete ode to his police days and the serve and protect mentality IMO.

Shane admitting that Lori and Carl saved HIS life not the other way around.  They gave him something to protect and something to care about in a world gone mad.

Finally fessing up to killing Ottis.  Rick even saying he would have done it to.  Shane disagreed with him about it which led to the fight.  I KNEW Rick was going to hold his own.  Shane runs around like a badass all the time, but Rick is the quite tough guy.

I liked the side plot with the daughter wanting to kill herself and trying to get Maggy to do it with her.  There is always two extreme sides to this show.  Lori wanting to save the girl and Andrea saying 'let her do what she want to do'.

I also liked how Andrea pointed out that Lori has it all and acts like she lost everything.  She still has her husband, her kid, a boyfriend (I lol'd at that) and a baby on the way.  While the rest of them are a rag tag group of survivors acting like family now.  None of them WERE actually family before it happened.  So Lori still has it all and they have nothing.

We all knew what was coming at the end of the episode because they showed it first so the whole time they were driving around witht he kid I just kept saying 'drop him off there and turn and leave', but then Rick said they wanted to scavenge while they were there.  My wife commented that they were not picking anything up.  Rick talked about winter and getting extra blankets etc and when Shane first went into the bus there were lanterns and blankets and he didn't grab them.  I am talking about before the wlakers were chasing him.

I think if those 2 walkers they killed were NOT police officers Rick may have left Shane.  IMO it was Rick thinking back to the police partner days when he looked down at the 2 corpses....he couldn't leave him then.  I would have been SUPER pissed if he would have left him.

Shane kept his head down the whole time Rick was talking to him in the road.  That is a sign of docility.  Rick is the man and Shane knows it.  The stupid preview of next week showed Andrea telling Shane that Rick is the leader and Shane saying that needed to change though.  I hated that.  I was hoping the talk would have put things right again between them.  Looks like Shane is still trying to jockey for position.

Rick telling Shane 'you think you love her, but you don't!' over and over was cool.  I like how Rick said that when he found out about them being together (on his own before Lori even said anything) that he wanted to break his jaw and have him choke on his own teeth...and the reason he didn't do it should not be misconstrude as weakness...just the opposite.  That comment was RIGHT on the mark IMO.

I liked the discussion about using the knives more and how that turned into Shane stabbing walkers trying to get in the bus.

Small plot leak IMO was when Rick came back for Shane and Shane running to the back of the bus to get out.  Why didn't he just do that before?  You can argue it either way though TBH.  But the first thing I thought when he went out the back was 'why didn't he just do that before'?

Herschel and Glenn just kind of went missing the whole episode.  The girl tries to kill herself?  'Where's Herschel?'  'I don't know.'  ....Drinking again?  Drunk in the barn or something?

This last episode was called '18 miles out'...I liked it, but it could have just as easily been called 'knives'.  with the girl trying to use one to kill herself with and then using the broken mirror....Shane and Rick getting back in the habbit of using them to kill walkers, the kid using his to stab the walker in the head like 50 times.  Does that show anything into his character?  Maybe he likes killing a little too much?

The preview for next weeks episode showed Daryl kicking the crap out of the kid in the barn.  I guess they are trying to get information, but after that they have to kill him right?

The kid yelling out that he went to school with Maggy ended up killing him.  That was the reason they had to kill him.  My wife thought that right away, but I countered witht he below reasoning:

How likely is it that the kid would find his old crew?  Rick drove him out about 20 miles in a random direction, with a bum leg and nothing but a knife for protection.  Travelling around on foot with the walkers around is slow and tedious to begin with.

I guess you cannot take that risk though.  In Ricks eyes at this point the farm is their new home.  He is staying and needs Herschel to deliver the baby.  I guess he cannot take the chance the kid will meet up with the old crew and theat they will want to seek retrobution for Rick killing the 2 guys in the bar, but why would the kid want to go back to the group that left him for dead?  You would think his allegence would be to Rick for saving his life.  Even a murdering thief will want a guy like Rick around to look after him in a ZPAW.

Only 3 episodes left.  When they said that at the end of the episode my wife let a saddened 'nooooo' out.  I wonder when they will debut the first episode of season 3?  Anyone have any info on that?  I was thinking Halloween again, but that would be 7 months out from the last episode of this season...that seems too far doesn't it?

MAJOR issue I found.

They keep cutting their hands open with a knife and smearing it on a surface to let the blood attract the walkers. Then they use their hands that have open cuts to melee attack the walkers with a knife, causing visible blood transfer.

Saving ammo is one thing, but putting yourself in extreme proximity with an infectious pathogen that has a 100% mortality rate dosnt seem like the better alternative.

-Attacking a walker with a knife or a melee weapon should be the LAST  thing you do IMO. The risk of exposure to infected fluids, or getting bit is far too great. Distance=safety. It makes for great tv fantasy (as does the entire zpaw scenario) but if we're gonna discuss tactics, lets be real. Blunt trauma to the head causes alot of splatter and would get all over you, and if you use your knife, you better throw it away, because your knife is now useless unless you have access to an autoclave to sterilize it. (same as daryls re-usable arrow)

Yeah somehow blood doesn't transmit the disease in this world of zombies.  That is weird because it is usually the way to do it.  Apparently it is all about the bacteria in the mouth and under the nails.  I was thinking the same thing when they started cutting themselves.

One of the big issues I had was the fence that kids leg got stuck on.  The top was HUGE.  It would have severed his entier muscle and most likely would have amputated the entire leg.  A week later (or however long it was) he is walking on it.  Impossible IMO.

On the last episode Shane paid special attention to point out that those two zombie cops werent bitten, just scratched.

It made me think back to the CDC episode, when the doctor whispered something in Ricks ear, that we never got to hear. What if the zombies in the walking dead end up being like the original "Romero Zombies?" Meaning that EVERYONE is infected, once you die you come back as a "walker." Being bit makes you just die faster. It could be that rick dosn't want to tell the rest of the group so as to not ruin everyones hope for a future.
