Rumor is that Daryl will, indeed, get introduced into the comic.  Norman Reedus "confirmed" that this is happening on an either an episode of Talking Dead, or one of the hype reels on AMC.  I have not heard it officially confirmed by Robert Kirkman.

'Sup to all the old timers, by the way.

spoiler below....

I thought it was a great episode. The... what would I do if I was there... part of my brain started working overtime when they were clearing the prison yard.
Why go into the yard when you could just lure them close to the fence and stab them like some of the group was doing to get rid of the majority of the walkers. Second why go into the buildings to clear them. Just prop a door so only one at a time can squeeze through it and take them out that way.

Very solid opener.  That one with the gas mask was brilliant!  And sneaking around in the dark like they do is really creepy.

Prediction: nobody could possibly live up to the hype the fans have put on the woman who plays Michonne.  I feel nervous for her.  I don't think she'll be able to 100% pull off the tough-guy bravado that Michonne has without looking pseudo-tough, but I think she'll do a decent job.  I just hope she doesn't "try" too hard to be a badass and just IS a badass.  I had the same feeling about Daryl early on, but he turned out alright.

I had assumed they didn't want them to mass against the fence and risk bending it over.  But that's probably because I watched Day of the Dead last week.  There probably weren't enough for that, and even if that was the idea, someone should have said something.

About clearing the buildings though, I thought they did that initially to get just far enough into the prison to get comfortable, and then didn't want to risk getting pushed out of their beds after they had fought for them.  As it is, there's a little bubble or "buffer" area for Laurie and Carl and whoever between the zombies inside the prison and the ones outside the fence.

***Spoliers***

Good episode! Loved seeing the gas mask zombie. Let's not forget the zombies in full riot gear! I got a kick out watching some of the crew repeatedly strike the helmets with their melee weapons to just watch the zombie stumble back and come at them again!

I agree with Doomsday on their strategy on clearing out the prison. Maybe...they just wanted the action in there...Most of last season was kind of slow...so

***Spoliers***

My issues:

1) Did anyone see them pick up the M4 and AK??? I saw Carol shooting an AK and Hershel was shooting an M4. Did they get them raiding the house? Also...the home made silencers...

2) I didn't realize that crossbows had a range of hundreds of yards...(Daryl on the tower.)

3) It seems everyone has an aim bot now. The head shots are crazy easy for everyone now. I guess they have had a lot of practice.

4) Also..it seemed the prison was near them at the end of the season. Here we see Lori all preggo out and Hershel looking terrible. Like it took months to get there. I thought it would take place right after the farm like the second season...

I tend to over think these things. After all, I am at work watching this so I don't have much to do. All in all good premier!

**Spoilers**

Also, I didn't see enough of Michonne to see how she reflects the character in the graphic novel. Also, in the novel...didn't they chop off Dale's leg in Alexandria? I know he was killed off last season...

LOVED IT!

Loved it even more after a Lions win and 2 straight Tigers wins!

This show can do no wrong from my perspective.

It took us a couple minutes to realize they fast forwarded in time....the first thing I noticed was Carl..he looked older and had a gun running around and had a gun tied off to his leg....then of course we saw Olive and realized it must be about 5-6 months in the future.

One of the things my wife had a problem with and I have later figured out a reason for was when they were clearing the yeard at the prison...she thought they should just lead them to the fence and stab them through the fence...all of them. They did it with some, but then ventured inside the yard to finish the job...I did not have a response for it when she asked, but after seeing how un sturdy the fences were (they were waving fairly dramatically) it is reasonable to assume that the dead had weakend the fences and the crew noticed it and didnt want the whole yard full of zombies knocking the fence down.

Carol and Daryl seem to be a little more cozy....Carol asking Daryl if he wanted to fool around.

Obviously something is up with Rick and Olive...we noticed that fairly early on. I am not sure if they are alluding to (and will discuss in more detail later) something that happened since we last saw the group...or if Rick just got sick of her crap and decided to 'stay married, but not really' kind of thing.

It is slightly far fetched to believe Carl has become a little badass in 6 months or so and it seemed a little forced. I also like how he has a little crush on Beth....I always thought her to be much older than Carl though....I always pictured her as 15 or something and thought Carl was closer to 10...seems they may be closer in age than I thought. According to wiki the actress who plays Beth is in her late teens or early 20's and I always thought of Carl as a little kid not even in his teens yet...I am sure Beth is meant to be closer to 15 in the series, but this explains why it seemed a little weird at first.

Someone already brought it up and it does leave me scratching my head in this series....there is nothing....no zombies nothing anywhere and then BAM they are every where. I get that they may have just migrated towards the sounds they were making, but yesterday I was watching some of the replays from last season and the highway scene is the biggest culprit of that IMO and I guess my anger towards that not being possible kind of spilled over to this season.

I liked how they introduced zombies with helmets. The one with the gas mask that Rick ripped off and half his face went with it? Sweet!

I am guessing either the inmates are going to rumble with the crew or they are going to come to some kind of understanding where the C block is theirs and the inmates can stay where they are, but I doubt that happens....I think some stuff is going to go down with the 2 groups.

I wonder if Adrea and Michone are going to hook up or have already? There seemed to be a love hate thing going on with them already and usually you only get that kind of angst when sex is involved.

Daryl continues to be my favorite character....it does not hurt that Reedus also plays another of my favorite characters of all time. I really hope Merle does not come back and mess with him or turn him against the group....I can see a fututre episode where Merle is re introduced and tried to lure Daryl away only to die by Daryls hand. I can see some flash backs with Darly showing Merle being a real jerk to him when they were younger and Darly getting revenge.

Endless plot possibilities even with what we just know now...there is going to be more introduced next week I am sure.

I already CAN'T WAIT for next week.

Dude, I literally rewinded that part like 3 times right after it happened. So good. Such a good idea from the writing team to do that.

Yeah I think that stuff might just tend to happen due to the nature of the series. It's a TV show, and I guess they're trying to keep that horror thing going where shit comes out of nowhere. That kind of thing has always been one of my issues with the show, but I'm somewhat over it now. I just decided to suspend my belief about that kind of thing. It makes no sense that they'd suddenly have a giant cluster of zeds around the next corner, and then suddenly a giant cluster of zeds behind them out of nowhere. So you just kinda have to let it be. The writers just want to create more suspense/tension/havoc for the survivors.

I also still find all the shooting scenes to be very funny. Especially during the prison yard in this episode. I can suspend my belief about everyone getting headshots and suddenly being super accurate shooters (since they do that kind of thing in most movies anyway), but it's funny to see them shooting handguns that have no recoil and where the SLIDE doesn't even go back. I was joking with my buddy about how none of the guns (including Carol's rifle) had any kick whatsoever, and so I found it hilarious when Carol was later complaining about her shoulder being sore from the rifle kick. Fortunately this kind of thing doesn't bother me, cause I know they're all on a budget for a TV series and this kind of thing is pretty common. But I do find it funny and fun to joke about. Just more suspended belief and re-emphasizes that it's a TV show.

I thought the same thing about the guns and the recoil...especially the shot guns.  I mean I am not a big gun fanatic or anything, but have shot a few guns in  my time and own a shotgun.  Even with proper stance holding the barrel tight to my shoulder and leaning into the shot I get some kick back....Herschel is pumping away and is barely moving.

I will read the books.....when the TV series is over.    I do not want any spoilers or to know what is ahead...I like guessing.

Yeah I hear that. The beauty for me is, I read the books up to volume 9 a couple years ago. I remember vague scenes and events, but virtually none of the details. So it's perfect!

The time lapse gives them the freedom to let us fill in certain gaps ourselves.  I don't think there is really a "suddenly" regarding their accuracy, Carl's transformation, or the number of walkers.

The scene with the map on the hood of the car, the hit-and-run on the house in the beginning, and Glen Mazzara's own words on the Talking Dead, all point to a circular bait-and-switch thing they've been doing to elude the small "herds" of walkers (their words) and prevent them from clustering together.

If Lorie's belly is showing a 4-6 month time lapse between seasons, you have to imagine what kind of a boot camp that must be for people like Carl and those less-experienced with guns.  Some military training doesn't even last that long, and Carl has been living that every single day.

Mazzara suggested that their strategy of escape-and-evade made them unable to take a direct shot at the prison, until now.  And who knows why the rural areas are so dense with walkers, but I figured once the "wanderers" were tired of the cities they would just bleed into the countryside by osmosis or something... or whatever you call it.

What's the word for the way moving particles disperse from a dense area to an area of lower pressure?  They way heat rises because excited particles are finding the path of least resistance?

I thought the whole prison around the corner thing from last season , and them scurrying around looking for supplies until they got there was a bit of dramatic irony. I am pretty sure that we knew about the prison , but they did not. The reason being is because at the last season the prison came into view from the camera zooming out.

I too noticed the recoil issue. I don't know if this was an insurance/safety issue, or a budgeting problem.

I am somewhat concerned about the foreshadowing of the pregnancy. It is almost a hint that lorie will probably be killed off. If everyone is infected, and she is pregnant with a stillborn, then there is either a chance that the baby will born with an immunity with Lorie being a carrier, or the baby will be born a walker, and Lorie will die from being bit by her own child.

Also, I really enjoyed the snipe at baby Shane by Daryl. However, I almost feel like he is losing some of his badassedness. It is almost like he and Rick have bonded and became a conformist instead of a badass.

I like how they were innovative with the bite on Hershel's leg. Chop that bitch off to prevent the swelling. Too little to late in my opinion. Especially if he dies.

I also noticed the lack of recoil and the slides on the guns. I just didn't mention it. OMG...I have to go back and look at the gas mask zombie scene!!

Oh as far as the gate thing. I'm thinking that maybe they were just trying to distract a few walkers not all...so the group wouldn't get surrounded...

AMAZING episode of course.

SPOILERS along with some uneducated (as in I did not read the comics) guesses..

I was surprised Rick chopped the dude in the head...I thought he was going to give a nice side swipe and take the head right off. I thought for sure Daryl was going to shoot the guy in the head with an arrow.

I m glad they gave the other 2 guys a chance, but it might come back to bite them. I am guessing at some point they become part of the group to become red shirts later.

I watched last weeks episode before yesterdays and started counting after Herschel got bit to when he got the leg off and it was like 45 seconds or so....Looks like it was in time...I guess it takes the virus more than a minute to travel a few feet...or maybe the bite itself does not give you the virus.....maybe the bites just kill you and everyone comes back...we alreadys know everyone has the virus...so a bite like that one may not activate the virus or anything, but the bite just kills you...eventually... and then the virus takes over. It would explain why Herschel didn't turn...he lived through the bite so he is all good.

If he would not have chopped the leg off I am guessing the bite would have killed him simply with all the bacteria etc and the unsanitary conditions they are living in and then he would turn. The leg was cut off before the bacteria could fester and travel to the heart, hence Herchel was saved.

I think it was Merle in the woods watching ....it only makes sense now to add some drama and have Carol kid napped or something by Merle then to have a show down with Merle and Daryl....with Daryl taking a liking to Carol now..

They need to go back and get all those white towells in the laundry.

I was glad Rick killed the short black guy by leaving him out in the yard with the zombies. He had no choice really...I guess he could have showed a little mercy and shot the dude in the head.

I would guess they stay at the prison the whole season....maybe even into next season, but I wonder if I am wrong on that and something happens that forces them to move on. A small island where you can fish for food and grow your own is always the gold standard for locations IMO...I wonder if that ever happens ..probably not.

My wife is starting to get peeved that they are not really talking about the relationship with Rick and Olive....it just kind of came out of nowhere that he hates her now.....deservedly so IMO, but he had always showed so much patience with her....I am guessing it was the Shane killing and her getting pissed at him for doing it after she told him to do it. That HAS to be it. He just has to be fed up with it by now.

did prefer the dissenting convict's death a little better in the comics (only due to the way it was done and the circumstances), but they actually did tie that into the TV version a different way, which was cool to see.  Highlight to read: [Spoiler start]In the comics, while fighting zombies side by side with the convicts, Rick "accidentally" shoots the guy in the head. It was comparatively unprovoked, but Rick still had to do it for the sake of his group. In the TV show, the convict "accidentally" swings at Rick and then sets the zombie on him, and then Rick kills him in retaliation.[Spoiler end]

For all of their sake, I hope that's the case. I'd like for them to get nice and cozy there and have a good system worked out. But, unfortunately, that doesn't exactly make for good television. I imagine they'll try to do one season each at a new location or something of the sort (since that roughly seems to be the pattern).

But it's going to be pretty interesting now that they'll be telling the split stories of RATG (Rick and the Gang) and M&A (Michonne/Andrea). The show is no longer going to be the cohesive goings-on of one group, but is now divergent between the two. So it'll be interesting to see how they split it up, whether it's one full episode dedicated to RATG (like yesterday's) and then one to M&A (next week's preview?), or if they'll cut between the two stories partway through an episode, maybe a half-hour each. It's a pretty interesting development for the show structure.
