Vote on the best story from the two.  I'll keep this open until we've all decided on the winner.

Stories:

And until Alex can get this poll up, or I can figure out how to, post your vote and then vote in the poll when it's up.  EDIT: I got it up.  Woooo.

Thanks for voting!

Get on your shit, Coonie. You put the same link up twice. I'm over here feeling like a retard because I thought I kept clicking the same one.

I read both of them, but I really can't decide. I plead the 5th.

Unfortunately, pleading the 5th gets you a kick in the balls.

Joking.

This is the reason I left this thread open--for constructive criticism:

SOBChaos, your story was good.  I can relate.  I work third shift stock at a grocery store and I often wonder what would happen if I had to exfil from such a place.  You had a few typos here and there, but it was very together and I liked that--compared to some other trash I've seen, I'll put yours on a pedestal.  I'd really like to thank you for entering.

Jdubs, I really liked The Conscripts because it was my kind of story--involving small units of the military trying to get by on luck alone.  I've read that shit the past 8 years of my life.  It was really well done, and I had a connection with the characters so that's why I had to vote for your story.  Thanks for entering.

Both were excellent stories. Had to go with SOB because I felt more of a connection with the characters.

Both stories were really good but I found Graveyard Shift didn't flow as smoothly as The Conscripts. There were places in Graveyard Shift that felt less cohesive, a little jumbled. For example, some characters are referred to very quickly with no lead in but as if we, the readers, should already know about them. Also, Graveyard Shift kind of went over old ground, nothing really new. The Conscripts takes a unique perspective, as unique as zombie fiction can be. Finally, in The Conscripts, the story seemed to come to an end and Graveyard Shift is obviously not complete.

Not to say I did not fully enjoy Graveyard Shift, far from it. I thought it was very well written and enjoyed reading it very much and hope to see a completion of the story. However, this is a contest and some means has to be chosen as to which story is better. These are my reasons, for what they're worth. I just thought reading my thoughts might help others or foster a bit of witty conversation.

I can honestly say, I did enjoy the ending to Graveyard Shift.

I did too.  I've done the floors at the store where I work.  It's a shit job, and I like the fact someone wrote a story where the hero does a shit job.

No offense, just my oppinion.

All righty.  The winner's decided.

The Conscripts by JDubs.
