(And Phil gets it in one.)

MONDAY: Progress proceeds. Sailors from the Ramage have been introduced. Jacob has graciously sent me electronic versions of the first two books for use while I'm away from home so I could research those characters again. Even though I read them before getting what was written of the third book, there's such a whirlwind of characters and events that keeping track was becoming problematic. And that's part of Z's style, this big, cinematic collision of people and problems.

One of the things that amazes me about the books is how characters spring up out of nowhere and grab your attention. Krueger, he didn't even appear until the last third of Plague, and he's been a fan favorite ever since. And that's the kind of thing I have to live up to?

Challenges lay ahead for the Survivors and for your ghost writer, but we're all up to snuff.

Thank you again for your input, and especially for the well-wishes I've received in PM.

I just want to express my thanks for the work you are doing to complete the 3rd book.  I am near the end of the 2nd book and went to check the web about the 3rd when I discovered the news about Mr Recht.  I think this is the best tribute to a man to show that his work is worth continuing.  I have always wished Issac Asimov would have lived to continue the foundation series, many authors have written in his universe, but none that I have found continued it forward to gaia.  Thanks again.

Spectre, I'm new to the site, but a big fan. I've been in/around the military all my life, so if you need any sort of technical info or whatever, let me know and I'll help out any way I can.

WEDNESDAY:

(Somehow, the internet ate my Tuesday post.)

Progress. Checking the Farmer's Almanac for weather conditions for the dates set in the manuscript. It seems silly, but I remember sitting in the barracks and watching Terminator 2, and I got a chill up my spine when I realized what day it was. Yes, it was August 29, 1997...Judgment Day. So now I look.

Working on another draft scene (one that Z had radically rewritten) to work more of his material back into the storyline. One a good note, the scene in question might be just the catalyst I needed for one character's spiritual growth-spurt, you might say.

Checking all over Google maps for areas of interest in Omaha. Sporting goods, pet stores, Radio Shack, Grainger outlet, etcetera. Muito bom

I'm going to check with Jacob and the family, but I'd like to maybe run a contest for the three last unpicked names for Ramage crewmembers. It could be a more-involved process, involving nominations or whatever, or more of a pull-your-name-out-of-a-hat thing.

That leads to another idea, but I'd better get approval/disapproval before putting anything else out there. There are a lot of toes to step on, and I'm trying to keep my feet to myself.

Good update.

Keep us up to date on that name contest.  We can work something out between us and make it like one of our regular contests if you'd like to.

I'm so happy they found someone to do this. It sounds like you're doing a pretty good job. Overall I'm happy, but it still hurts that he's gone.

THURSDAY:

Queries sent.

Work proceeds on Chapter Two. Still looking for a title for that one, too. Survivor hijinks abound, and the characters have enough talk to remind everyone of what has happened in books 1 and 2. Krueger shoots stuff. Brewster cracks wise. Trev thumps skulls with a baton. Things are just as we last saw them.

More tomorrow.

You guys all jumped on the bandwagon for my name idea, and now my chance has dwindled. I'm never going to forgive you bastards. Except Spectre.

FRIDAY:

Wordcounts updated. RE: the comment earlier, about how much of the book was finished before Z passed, I'm not at liberty to say how much was written already, but don't you worry. As to the wordcount, that's just how much is there for that particular chapter that's been edited/added to.

That being said, there are some spots that were left mercifully blank. Z wrote some great scenes that didn't make it into the finalized version of the manuscript he had, and in order to work them back in, I've had to be creative. Chapter Three is one of those places where there is a lot of leeway for writing introductory scenes for the new characters and plot development.

Work proceeds!

EDIT: Jacob is at Horror Realm this weekend, so any and all queries I've sent to him regarding things I've mentioned may go unanswered for a couple of days.

I am sure eventually we will find out who you are, but I am curious so I will ask:

Who are you?

Don't answer that.  I wouldn't want to see you hurt if someone decides the third book wasn't great.  I'm not saying it will be, just that some people are narrow-minded and a bit crazy.

I don't know when, if anytime before the book comes out, it will be okay for me to say, "Yes, world, I am the ghostwriter for Survivors," but when I can, I will, because I'm honored to do so. And if we just have to wait for the book to come out, so be it; my name will be in there somewhere.

As for people's opinions of the finished product...well, I'm a big boy. If I didn't think I could take some heat, I wouldn't have signed on to take over something with a vocal fanbase.

I was just curious.  TBH I do not really care who you are because it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job.  Plus I was bored at work and wanted something to keep me busy!
