Any suggestions for a writing soundtrack?

The original Dawn of the Dead soundtrack by Goblin/Dario Argento. You want to have the right atmosphere while writing this book, don't you? :-)

You can never go wrong with some of the older Metallica. Kill em All, ...and justice for all, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning. Master of Puppets, Leper Messiah, For whom the bell tolls, The Four Horsemen, and Harvester of Sorrow are all good for getting the juices to flow.

LOL. I was just preaching this gospel to RCS a few hours ago today. Naturally, he's already very well versed in classic Metallica. But you can never have too much!

As far as specifics, I think Blackened will fit into that list, as well as the instrumentals (The Call of Ktulu/Orion/To Live is to Die).

Dawn of the Dead soundtrack, probably not. I won't denigrate any of the works associated with the original Holy Trinity of zombie movies, but the feel of Dawn or Day isn't anything like the MSS, IMHO.

The way that Z integrated both of the popular versions of the modern-day zombie in to the MSS--both sprinters and shamblers--is nothing short of genius, and the constant threat of the fast, about to turn zombie coupled with that of the slow-moving zombie horde...for my money, the atmosphere of tension created by the double threat is above and beyond that of classic zombie cinema.

There. I said it.

I have a mix going on right now. Been working on the suspenseful stuff, so I have rockin':

AC/DC - Night Prowler
Danzig - She Rides
Black Sabbath - Hand of Doom (where things pick up a little bit)
Alice Cooper - Dead Babies
Aerosmith - Nobody's Fault
Judas Priest - The Sentinel (picking up again)
Pink Floyd - One of These Days
Led Zeppelin - No Quarter
Kiss - Strange Ways

See what's happening here? Slower songs in minor keys, a hint of menace, with the occasional faster part that picks up the pace. This is the classic rock mix.

For the fights, well...I have other stuff. More on that later.

I used to get my healthy dose of Orion before going to school.  Boy, did it help out.

Dawn 04 had pretty kick ass music too.

When the Man Comes Around - J. Cash

People Who Died - J Carrol Band

Down with the Sickness - DOTD version

FRIDAY:

Wordcount updated. Work suffered for traveling, but I'm back on track and plugging away.

Crew members from the Ramage have come and gone, now that one of the deleted scenes is back in. They still need names, though...I wonder what's a fair way to run a contest for it? Perhaps the mods have an idea, since they've done contests before.

Three names. I need three names.

i second that for Zach. it should be at least one name in there. i had never met him but i was a fan of his writing from the first page on of MSS. an idea would be a short zambo story contest and have the mods be the judges to be fair, that is if you have enough time???

Also have the story title be the name that they want to win and the story about that person in a zombie situation. just throwing ideas out there.

SUNDAY:

Snippet! Enjoy this morsel from Chapter Four.

"We're surrounded!" said Smith.

Hal's eyebrows shot up, and he looked from the imminent threat toward the far end of the bridge. Shamblers were now approaching from both directions. From the Lexington side of the bridge, infected were pulling themselves from piled wrecks. The survivors moved closer together, firing at will. Shamblers dropped left and right, but for every one that fell, a pair seemed to appear and take its place, the virus' version of a stumbling Hydra.

Worse, from what Hal could see, there were small neighborhoods on either side of their destination. He could see even more doddering figures emerging from side streets to reinforce their undead companions.

"This is very, very bad," said Rico in a trembling voice.

"Thank you!" Stiles shouted, levering another round into his Winchester and dropping a shambler with a well-aimed shot. "It's always nice to know when things have gotten somehow worse. I swear to God," he shot another dead thing dead again, "if we get out of this, I'm going to feed you that fucking gun."

Same here, I hope they get the same reader they did for the first two audio books. I'd love to have the paperback books but sadly room is at a premium for me. My iPod fits in a pocket

FRIDAY:

No wordcount update. This week has been hot and heavy editing work on a different book (my own) with a hopeful eye to publication. I should be done with that part by this weekend and then back to the MSS.

I think you should name one of the Rampage Sailors Brian.... After me! However...... If you do he CANNOT be a pussy! He can die..... but my alter ego MUST do something important or badass before he dies! Thank you I look forward to having myself mentioned in one of the Morningstar books! LOVE it I am a HUGE fan!
