Hello, everyone.

I am a potential ghostwriter for Z.A. Recht's SURVIVORS and have spent the last couple of days re-readng Plague of the Dead and Thunder and Ashes, as I want to wrap up as many threads as possible, and try to do it as much in Z's style as I can.

With that in mind, I come to you, the diehard fans. Jacob (Permuted Press) has already started a thread for a wish-list of sorts, and I am here asking for details from the first two installments of the Morningstar Saga that you, the fans, feel are important to revisit for the conclusion. What was it in those books that got your attention? Big things, small things, seemingly insignificant things: they are all worthy of mention, as they are all Z's.

(As a fan myself, of course I have ideas of how I would like things to wrap up, but I'm looking for this information from the fans because the more of Z there is in this book, the better endcap to his legacy it will be.)

Any details you can think of, folks. Anything. Things like:

 - Brewster turned down Ranger training
 - Sherman is fond of Shakespeare, but also R.A. Heinlein
 - Mason is fond of Beethoven
 - Rebecca talks in her sleep
 - Morningstar infects animals, too
 - Mbutu calls the infected "the cursed"

Thank you for your help. And if, by chance, I should not be the ghostwriter to finish SURVIVORS, then whoever it is will be glad for your input and insight.

I can vouch for this poster, they are indeed in the running to build upon Z's work and finish Survivors.

Writers think alike.  I was planning to start a thread just like this one to help out the ghostwriter.

It has been awhile since I read the books, and correct me if im wrong, but I think the fate of the Ramage should be known in the end.

I never did finish the first two books. I only made it about half way through the first book, and felt that there should not be an ending. If you wrap the series up, then I suggest wrapping it up in a cliffhanger.  I honestly believe Z would have wanted it this way. The reason is because he has always thought of this saga not being exactly finished. This would allow for branching. He eventually wanted the series to go episodic, almost like a monthly serial that people would bite their nails to get a hold of. Eventhough there is no way of actually branching on these characters because Z is no longer with us, I think that it is very approriate to end it the way he may have wanted it.

Z always said it'd be called "Survivors" for a reason. To the dismay of many here, I'm sure, I don't think you should be scared to kill off any character not named Brewster.

Dang it I miss him!  I miss the endless possibilities!  Everything that could have been that will never be!

With respect to Survivors, it seems to me a qualified writer could discern enough info from the previous two books to take what Z has written for the third book and logically finish it.

Good luck and God speed.

Yes, sir. Like I said, I'm a fan of The Morningstar Saga and should I be the person to finish the job, I would like to end the series in a fashion worthy of Z's work. And I have my own preferences as to what made the first two books special. But, this isn't about me. This is about closure for the fans and for the Saga...which is why I'm here, asking the fans.

Any and all input will be glady accepted and considered as long as it jibes with what Z had already written for Survivors.

I agree, and that was the spirit behind my wishlist thread also.  I'm confident that PotentialSpectre could have taken Z's work and brought it to a logical conclusion with no input from anyone else.  But I appreciate the fact that he sees a bigger scope to it, and wants to try to pull in as much input from the fan community as possible.  It seems fitting to me that the community of people who not only read Z's work but "hung out" with him would get to be in on the brainstorming session for the final book.  This is a rare opportunity, and I encourage you guys to step up and throw in your thoughts and ideas, big or small.

Dont forget about Ron and Katie. And if you could, specify if Stiles is actually immune so that he has no trace of the virus in him, or if its like a 28 weeks later/ typhoid Mary time thing with the symptoms not affecting him even though he is infected and contagious

not sure if it is mentioned elswhere, but the raiders from book 2, had military gear, perhaps just my impression but i got a feeling of some form of governmernt support?  which government i dont know.

as for killing chars, i think if its done well, everyone will go with it.  I mean dont treat Brewster or Krueger like red shirt #2 on Star Trek

something more like the 13th warrior, or saving private ryan. it's ok to kill good characters to advance the story, if its done right......yes i could have use more classical examples like shakespeare or the iliad but its late and i wanted to keep it simple.

Alright, everybody. Those of you that had input, I thank you for taking the time to make your contributions. I'll be writing up my proposal and submitting it to Permuted in the near future.

Before I do, I'll check this thread again. You know, just in case.

Thank you.

i agree with everyone!!!

but there are some things i still wonder about
1.)the military factions
2.)the race to get to shermans group between the ajents and the navy
3.)is the town they went through ok or did somthing happen since they left
4.)will the imune person live or die before his blood can be studyed
5.)is there any other survivores in the city
6.)would be awsome to have members from a swat team in it but not shere if it would go off the story
7.)is there any other surviving towns
8.) what plans do the survivers have in city if it takes a turn for the worse and where will they get there supplys to live
9.)at end it should be a clife hanger but have a flash to the futer of any survivors for like a short chapter
10.)i believe they should introduce some new long term effect of the vires or not???

more... not that i know of

PotentialSpectre... love the name. Awesome choice. It's also nice to see that you have good grammar. That's more than I can say for some of the people that get published.

I don't have any real contributions, unfortunately, but I can say this: I get a good vibe from you. The amount that you seem to respect not only the source material, but the source itself, is very admirable. I don't know any of the other candidates, or potential spectres, in the running for the position, but you have my vote for now.

It's a hell of a job, so I'm glad to hear you're up for the task.

There are a few things that I think HAVE to be addressed in the final book....Obviously we have the story of the the Sailors and Stiles. We need to get him to the research facility! Also there needs to be a EPIC battle with the NSA faction that has been pursuing the good Dr. and her little crew. It has been reveled that there is a Goverment in place that does NOT support the NSA people? Maybe contact and a little support from them to save the day against the NSA faction? As I think of more I will try to add anymore info I have been reading both books over again recently and picking up little tidbits here and there. Oh and as to where the raiders got their hardware? I think that with infected overunning military facilities there might be some hardware laying around for the takers (Hint, Hint Gen. Sherman)

I am so inlove with the charecters in these 2 books and was thrilled to see stiles safe and possibly imune... I would hate the last book to be a cliff hanger because with cliff hangers you always think there will be another coming out. Im pretty sure the 3rd will be the last and i feel it should focus on the last survivors and how they adapt after the virus is irradicated... Please Please please no cliff hangers I dont want to always wonder this or that....

I did speak with Z's mom, and she does know how Z wanted to end the book. However, the problem is how to get there from T&A.  So, whatever input you guys have for our "ghost author" I am sure would be helpful.  Whoever writes the book will indeed be putting it to an end that Z would have wanted.

just read through his books, try to pick up his style. Nothing is perfect, Z made a few mistakes himself.

  1. I would like to know the fate of the crew of the U.S.S. Ramage.
  2. I'd like to know what became of Sheriff Keaton and his community.
  3. Obviously, I'd like to see Stiles used to reverse engineer a cure for Morningstar.
  4. I'd like to definitely know what fate awaits Sawyer...does he get his just deserves.
  5. I'd like to know more about Trevor...and his demons. That could get interesting.

I'm sure more will come to me shortly.

I remember Z and me talking once..long ago. he mentioned how in survivors the biggest threat wasn't the infected but the remaining humans. remember the raiders from  thunder and ashes.

Yes, this is exactly why I mention wanting to know what became of Sheriff Keaton and community. I have a feeling the raiders were not through. Perhaps they did leave Keaton and company alone...and have now set their sights on Sherman...
