I've been a die hard Red Dawn fan for years. You can't get quality fear-mongering like that anymore.

The original is referred to in my house as the "Documentary."

I have reservations about the remake though, its  been in limbo for almost three years.

It was SUPPOSED to be the chinese, then the producers bowed down to them and digitally altered all the flags to be north korean, and changed some of the signs and banners that had chinese writing.  and even re-shot some scenes and changed dialogue. Then the studio went bankrupt and they couldnt find anyone who wanted to pick it up as a distributor.

-All that aside, i will watch the FUCK out of this movie. I'm drunk and want to see some americans kicking ass! 'MERICA!

As a cold war child this movie is a joke the original had merit due to it being a possibility during that time, however the NK really they dont have the navy to invade us let alone the fleets and ASW capability to protect their supply line across the pacific.

I'm going to it without a doubt. I did not like that the Chinese invasion was changed to North Korean either. Total wuss out. I thought the original remake idea of this country getting repossessed for all of our debt and foreign powers forcing a regime change here was a great way to make the basic idea more relevant. "We are here to help" "We are here to restore your honor" I would love to hear what the people behind the game Homefront thought of the re-cut.

Homefront did the same thing. Originally John Milius, the director of the original Red Dawn, who also wrote the story for Homefront and the novelization, planned on it being a chinese invasion.

...so I just saw the original for the first time not too long ago. I don't see what they could do with a remake that would be new ground.

Watched the original with my girl last night.  It's funny when she complains that she doesn't want to watch an 80s action flick but can't take her eyes away after the first parachute drops.

Freedom Fighters and its whole storyline and hiring system along with gun play was pretty legit. Homefront was kinda like, huh?

Plus the whole backstory to Freedom Fighters was awesome, watching the opening intro with the russian subs and russian chanting in the background and the text explaining things, sweet. The whole vengeance mission where you snipe the over sized russian. It wasn't the bloodiest or even that graphically stunning but it was still the best thing I've ever played on ps2 beside the GTA's

I predict this film will be made of fail. The only thing that the North Korean army is a threat to, aside from North Korea's own people, is South Korea.

Film makers either need to grow some stones and use China as the antagonist, or have the brains to realize BEFORE they greenlit the project it might not sell well in China.

Idiots.

I saw the trailer at work wow is this movie full of itself i can see why it wasn't released till after Chris Helmsworths popularity rose.

To be honest this move just wont resonate like the original did. The original was released in a time when it was possible that the invasion of the us by the Warsaw pact could happen, if they were gonna remake something why not Toy soldiers? all you have to do is change the Colombians to Al-Queda and you would be set.

I was about to disagree because I thought every gun nut and right winger would flock to this in a polarized election season, but I see they're releasing it 2 weeks after the election.  Bad move I think.  They could have capitalized on some angry white people money.

Its getting released one week after the new call of duty which is also set in the near future with a possible invasion of the U.S.

This movie was not great. Worth a rental at least, but not as good as the first one. You can tell there were studio problems because it felt so rushed and chopped-together. Damn shame too because I really wanted to like this, and there were a dozen places where they could have made it so much better.
