I thought it would probably be best to start a new thread specifically for updates on the 3rd Morningstar Saga book, Survivors.

5-12-10
At present Z's parents have collected all Z's writings they could find related to Survivors.  This includes at least 4 versions of the manuscript Z was working on.  I haven't personally seen any of it yet, but Z's parents have put it all in the mail for me.

Once I've had a chance to take stock  of what exactly is there we'll figure out how to proceed--most likely getting an editor/ghostwriter to take Z's materials and do whatever is necessary to finish the book.

At this time I can't give even a ballpark guess as to when Survivors might be available in print.

6-3-10
I've received all of Z's materials for Survivors from his parents.  Unfortunately we now know for certain that the manuscript is incomplete.  Z's parents do wish to see the book completed and published, so our next step will be finding a suitable author to complete the final book in the Morningstar trilogy.

8-2-10

Sent off a proposed plot for Survivors to Z's parents for feedback.  The pitch expands what Z had finished on the book, filling in the gaps and bringing the book and trilogy to a satisfactory conclusion.  Once we get the overall plot pinned down to everyone's liking writing of the remainder of the book will begin.

9-13-10
Z's parents have approved the proposed plot for Survivors and the ghost writer has begun working to finish out Z's existing manuscript.  The ghost writer is posting updates on the progress in this thread.

I offer my time to go over all the material and be a ghost guide, not a writer, but a guide.  Feel free to contact me.

j.l bourne should do the edit/ghost write...

I can't wait. So thankful his family did that... I'm so glad they were not like.. "NO. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT!!!!" that'd have been SOOOO selfish and lame. Glad they see their son/brother's gift, and glad they decided to share it with us all. I for one am forever grateful. And man, I swear I found the LAST copy of Thunder and Ashe's in Portland a month back. called every store in town - nothing till november 2010 when i guess they will have more in stock. Insane. Hope they print enough of the 3rd one!!!!

Now that's an interesting thought.....I hadn't imagined Raptorman ghostwriting it.....but I'd say no.  He's a nice guy; though he probably don't remember talking to me; but.......no....for various reasons.  I think Z would rather have RCS/Sage/Evil Supervillian write it.....just from the pieces I've picked up over the years.

None of us are....and I hate to think back to chats with him, cause it usually makes me sad....but Z was special; but, like all the real authors I know, they're like that.  They have that "thing" that makes them like a firefly in the dark.  They draw the rest of us to them because they really do have the special spark.

Everytime I thought I had him figured out, he threw me a curve and that irked me.  I just couldn't place my finger on him.

Hey guys,
So glad to hear Z's family are up for the 3rd book to bfinished and published. I actually just found out about his passing today as I googled his name to find out what was happening with the 3rd instalment. Ive read  and  love both Plague of the Dead and Thunder and Ashes and think it would be a fitting tribute to Z and his family if the saga were finished.

He was a "one of a kind" kind of guy, Dillo.  Hard to come by and definitely not easily forgotten.

That's depressing news.

Now we know for certain that the third book will not be all Z's ideas.  Let just hope the new author stays true to Z's vision and style.

Unless the writer is a Z fan, I doubt it then.

great news that you have the manuscripts, just a shame that they are incomplete.
Any ideas on who might finish the book?
