Hello All,

Well I just got back from lunch and as a weekly (or so) routine I stopped at a Borders to see what Zombie fiction is out there and to pick up a copy of said fiction if it looks good.

Well I saw Patient Zero and even though it was 15.00 I decided to give it a whirl.

Now before I say anything on this I have to say I stopped reading 'Eden' after 44 pages.  I could not look past the grammatical errors that were everywhere and I had a hard time following the story up to that point.  I am sure I will pick it back up in a couple months and finish it up, but I was not impressed with the opening of the book.

Speaking of openings!  Holy shit!  This book already has become a favorite of mine and I only had a chance to read up to page 26.  What an opening!  Has to be one of the best openings I have read in a while.  It is quick and written VERY well.

Look I love what Permuted Press does for the genre, but the new stuff that is coming out is not written very well.  I will read it because of the lack of good ZPAW fiction out there, but this guy is a bon a fide writer!

Again I mean no offense to anyone else (and I am not talking about you Z.  I consider you a bon a fide writer.), but to others who may have scraped a book together and gotten it published.

I was just VERY impressed by the writing and the style of Jonathon Mayberry.  Now maybe the book self implodes and tomorrow I make a reply about how bad it is, but as of right now the writing is great and the opening sequence is one of the best I have ever read.  Very well written.

Anyone else enjoy this book?

Never heard of it. But I like the sound of Patient Zero, it just sounds promising...with every zombie book and series out there my mind always leads back to the major question "Who was the first unlucky bastard to start it all?"

Just assuming from the title you would know where it started, so yeah.

One of the things that got me into the Morningstar Saga was just the word Morningstar (aka:LUCIFERRRRRR!). When I saw it on the bookshelves my hands immediately shot out for it. And I loved it.

I mean...come on...how does one not want to read a book who's title roughly translates into "The Lucifer Strain" and it involves zombies? Hook line and sinker, right there.

The book is very covert ops/hardcore militray type stuff so far.  Only one zombie interaction in the story so far.

I still love it.  I am on page 112.  There is some big time build up and I love the main character.

I love the idea behind the story as well.

Has noone else read this book?

My brother bought this book, and I stayed over at his place and read up to--guess what?--page 26.  I think it is quite a good story, and I look forward to reading more.

Yeah, but contrary to popular opinion I do like to support writers.  I have many books in boxes that I purchased (overly priced at 9 or 15) from Borders/Barnes and Noble etc.

I am on page 260 and I have to say HOLY CRAP!  This is one of the best zombie books I ever read.  It is different from The MSS and if the author comes out with a couple more (I am not sure if he left it open ended at the end or not I still have a 100 or so pages before I finish it) he will have a fan for life in me for sure.

It is a lot of covert op type stuff, but the story is right there and the action is over the top, but fantastic.

You guys HAVE to read it.

Picked up and started it so far so good. See what you mean about a cool main character. Side note for you guys that frequent Borders. Get a Borders rewards card and enter your email. About 3 times a month I get some kind of coupon in the email. Got Patient Zero with a 20% off one today and got Day by Day Armageddon with a 40% off.

I had a double header in softball yesterday and was out a little late for me (on a weekday) and when i got home I grabbed the book and read till about 1:00am.  326 currently.  If he does what I think he is going to do with the ending I will be hooked big time.

Well it is finished.  Very good book, but I was a hoping for something different in the end.

Spolier .....kind of....

I do not think he left it open ended.  There is a mention of another book, but it may just involve the main character with a different plot line.  Ie:  no zombies.

I was hoping for an all on break out with him and his group making a brake for it and then living in a PAW.  Maybe it will still happen.

I am actually getting ready to re read it.  Sometimes when I read through a book I miss shit and forget what character are what etc.  Like if they mention a character in the beginning and then do not re introduce them until 10 chapters later I forget about them or get them mixed up with other characters.

It was good and he does a good job of describing action.

I still have not picked up Eden again.  I guess I need to.  I only read about 60 pages or so.

I actually read Patient Zero before i looked at WWZ or TMS.  I only got WWZ because im a Mel Brooks fan... yeah, i know... i read the son cuz i like the dad... turned out to be a decent book though.  I only got into TMS cuz i ran out of other books.... i was not a fan of the cover, it didnt draw me in for some reason.  I read it... and was like HOLY SHIT!  its true, you cant judge a book by its cover.  Anyways, Patient Zero... great book.  Weapons are accurate, as are the tactics of the units.  Very impressive.  By the way... i am sooo looking forward to the final chapter of TMS!
