It has been one year since the passing of Z.  Many of you  knew him on a personal level.  Sure, you may not have met him in person, or chatted with him on the phone. You may have talked to him indirectly or directly through this website.  Reguardless of the circumstances only one thing is true. One year ago today, the world had lost one of the most talented upcoming authors.

At his memorial service Z's parents asked me to speak. They wanted me to tell all of his friends and family how Z spoke of them and how he had his priorities.  Not knowing what to say and speaking after everbody in the service, I got up the courage to go and speak.

" Who here has been involved in Zach's life in some form or fashion" I said, after which everybody raised their hands. " Every single one of you are reflected in Z's writing. You see authors tend to take their past experiences, environments, and fondest memories, and warp them into a world where everyone exists in the same story." Earlier there had been a reference to the flag that Z hung in his house upside down. The thought was that he did this  out of his spite in lack of confidence in the government. I thought otherwise, and decided to interpret it a different way. " There is another reason why flags were placed upsidedown. It was common practice in the navy, when ships were in distress." On this day the flag was hung rightside up, and I turned to point this out. " As we look back at this flag it is now hung rightsideup, meaning to me that Zach is no longer distressed."

The reason why I want to have the collective rememberance be 6:30 PM EST is because that was the last time I remember looking at the clock when I was running late to go to Z's house and chill.  I am not going to get into details out of respect for the family, and my sanity.  I do not want to be PMed one time asking for the Z's cause of death. I will only discuss this when the family is ready to reveal, and their pain has subsided.

Here's to you Z in the house you built. Keeping strong one year after.

Here here!  I didnt know you knew Z in RL.  It would be cool to hear some stories about him.  I never met him, but he was a great guy that I wish I did know better.

He is on my mind today....all day.

I am going to try and be on later today.

Unfortunatly due to me being locationally challenged, I will not be able to join in on the masses.  I will however; be thinking of all of you and may even take a picture for you all to see

I'll be here at 6:30.  I never got to talk to him 1 on 1, which is a regret I have.  I guess I was kind of intimidated at first; here is this author who I have the utmost respect for, don't know much about him or anything like that.  At least I made some awesome friends on here thanks to Z's books and me reading the website address on the inside page lol.

Yeah, like said before, 6:30 EST will work for me.

I still have the emails we sent to one another back before I joined the site. I was really surprised when he wrote back to me in the first place. I remember telling some people that I had written an author and that he wrote back to me. I thought it was really cool.

I really appreciate the community that he built here, and I'm glad to know all of you guys.

Hi,this is Mary Recht, Zach's mom.  We are spending this day remembering Zach and all the wonderful things about him.  We are very touched by David's plan to get the fans together at 6:30 to pay tribute to Zach's memory.  Our family will be at our synagogue to derdicate Zach's bronze plaque on the "Yahrzeit"(Memorial) board.    We will check in later .  I want you all to know that SURVIVORS , the third part of the Morningstar Trilogy, is coming along beautifully and will be published soon.  Hopefullly, you've all seen the wonderful tribute to Zach in the funzine "Rigor Mortis."  It was so eloquently done!!  It certainly captures the very essence of Zach!!  Thanks for all of your support!!

Well, shit.  I wish somebody would have spoken up in the other thread before we called a different time.

I thought 6:30 was something just for cleoporai.  It's cool though... I'm sure all zombie writers love sequels.

Was just chatting with RCS and wanted to share and expand something I have been thinking about because Z is not the only untimely death I have experienced lately.

I have been through some very good and some very bad times and have made some terrible decisions in my life but the only real regret I have of late is not going to that convention last year to meet Z in person thinking I will catch the next one.

So between Z and another friend I have been telling people in my life that I appreciate them and feel fortunate for having met them. You never know when someone or yourself will disappear from life and I want them to know that they are valued.

So I do want all you people to know that I am honored to be a part of this group that Z built.

Alex....I have been thinking that all day.  You do not know what is going to happen.  And I love this place and all of your guys...(yes...I am a girl...so I can mush all I want)
This is the house that Z built...and this is my other family.  We here are all connected and brought together by Z.  I don't know the how or whys...but we are..
I miss Z...I miss is wit and his sarcasm...he knowledge and his talent.  I am grateful that he made this place...I am grateful for all of you.  and like Alex...I don't want to wait to let you know.
ok...now I am bawling... enough mush.....

You know it is hard to believe that a year has gone by. it was the 11th that i heard the news. A friend of mine who works for Universal in Orlando called me to tell me. When the old die we accept it but when the young die it is allways hard to take. Rest In Peace.

Every part of me regrets not going to that convention last year. I almost feel as if, as unrealistic as it may sound, that had we met I might have been able to lend some insight, or even, just...hell...I don't know. Like if we had all met, maybe. I don't know. Things would have been different. I miss you buddy, I really do. One of a kind. Love you, buddy. Rest in peace.

How's everyone feeling?  I just had a couple-hour nap and I could use a few more.

I drew this on a napkin at the bar that night.  I've had them in my phone since Dec. 11...just now figured out how to upload.
