One of the most difficult parts of the initial outbreak and escape, in my opinion, is deciding whether or not to be a hero. I'm not just talking about answering the door when some stranger running from a hoard of zed begs for help, no i mean something a little different.

Anyone who really thinks about their zombie plan thinks about who they would take with them, and most likely who they probably shouldn't. Thing is, what happens when you know someone you love would really slow you down, and taking them with you when you decide to leave your initial hide out would more than likely get you killed. What if its your mother, or your best friend?

Take my situation as your hypothetical.

A residential area in a medium sized city, one story house, two 2 inch thick doors, iron bars on the windows. In your party you have: Your significant other with a motorcycle, good with blunt objects. Your highly intelligent best friend with some medical skills, best friend's mother who is basically a clone of your friend, and your friend's younger (weak-willed) sister. You also have your fairly innocent sister who may or may not handle the zed well, your 60 year old mother with arthritis who doesn't walk very well after she's on her feet more than an hour, and a good friend, soon to be military, good with a large number of guns.

So your main problems are, your sister, your mother, and your best friend's sister. Your sister is basically sweet and innocent, and you're not sure how she'll react under pressure. You mother's knees and back hurt bad enough to stop her walking after an hour or two, and your best friend's sister is the type of person who'd most likely loose it and kill herself, taking your party with her.

So what do you do? Obviously ditch the psycho chick, but what about your mom, and your sister?

I'd take 'em all along and kill them as needed.

Take the sister and friend with you.  Kill the mother and eat what you can, pack the rest and save it.  A few days down teh road the rest of mom is probably rotten, so kill the pyscho friend and eat her.  Few days more and you're hungry again, sorry sis...

Keep everyone alive as long as possible... They could prove useful in a variety of way.  I am willing and able to make decisions based on the greater good, even if those decisions may seem cruel.

You guys are talking out your asses.  Unless you've actually been in a life or death situation you can't really say what you'd do.  I'd keep my family first, and tell the others to move on if they want to, and we'll either make it, or not.

Sisters friend....I'd kill her if she were a threat to me and my family by giving us away to the zoms. Sorry, but that's the truth.

i would take them along untile i hit troble then dump the crazy chick to slow down or stop the zombies while the rest try to get out then if the mother cant go anyfurther and the dead are alost on our heals again id say sorry and run with the rest. same for the sister. id keep my friend enless he gets bit and if he dose im going to go on a killing spree to get out and away.

my family would not even think over leaving me behind they would just say screw you and run for the hills. to bad my moms a doc so begining of outbreak a goner. my step dads a electrishion and cant get a job but he will go down saving the family my sisters are screwd since they are weak and will be dead waits. my step brothers will probably be ok but scott has his own family of weeklings. nick would shoot my leg take my gun and run if he needs something to slow the zeds. my dads side is better sutted for it but there are still minor problems.

Moms stay in fortified house with some provisions. Everyone else goes on road trip looking for more permanent place to live. Ditch crazy chick as needed.  Gotta look out for sis. Medic and military dude are a bonus.  Chicks come in handy too.

Your scenario with your mom is a lot less bleak than it would be if it was my mom (she's about the same age, but has multiple sclerosis).  At least yours can walk if she has to.

I'd try to save everyone until it got to the point that trying to do so could result in the death of the rest of the party.  I'd try to find something with wheels that can be pulled or pushed for the mother.  If anyone starts acting like the original "Barbra" they get left behind for zombie food.
