Alright people I am starting to get a little panicky.  There have been multiple shows on TV the past few years that have documented what to do in case of emergencies etc.

I am now starting to hear commercials on the radio (I stream a local sports talk show while at work 8 hours a day) and heard a spot for this place:

http://www.ready.gov/america/index.html

Basically giving very basic advice about what to do and what to have to be ready in case something happens.

I am usually not a person to get all nervous about things like this, but I am starting to hear more and more on this subject.  It is like they are preparing us for an EVENTUAL not a POTENTIAL attack.

The 10 year anniversary of 9/11 is coming up and to be honest I am a little nervous that they may have some sort of 'intelligence' that 'something' is going to happen, but they have NO IDEA where or what.

Looks like I am not going to put off getting my BOB together anymore and I think I am going to stock up on ammo/food.

Better to have that stuff and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Been thinking myself seems we are overdue for something big. The trouble in Egypt is something to keep an eye on if the The Muslim Brotherhood gets in there with any kind of power a lot of people will be fucked big time.

Another thing to consider is radical Islam is recruiting American citizens....obviously not stable ones.... right here in our country. Keep your eyes open I think it's not a matter of if but when some terrorist disaster strikes.

I personally have no faith in this administration to do anything right. Hopefully we as individuals do at least a minimum amount of preparation so we don't get caught in a position were we have to depend on government assistance.

Sorry if I sound so doom and gloom but in my 60 years I have never seen times this bad.

We only drink bottled water at my house so there is ALWAYS at least 3-4 /35 pack 12 ounce waters in the basement.  We do not have a HUGE supply of food because we eat out way too much.  I have a Remington 870 shotgun, but only a handful of shells.  I have flashlights, extra batteries always on hand etc, but it would be nice to have a BOB in case we had to get out quick.  It would also be nice to have one more gun that I could give to the wife and some extra ammo around would also be nice.

The only thing I am honestly 'scared' of is a nuclear attack near my city.  It is really the only thing that can happen fast enough and cause enough damage to scare me.  An invasion I am not as worried about.

I was just really surprised to hear the radio spot.  That is the one that kind of made me think.

JBK I share your worries. It is almost 10 years since 9/11. I do too believe something big is gonna happen this year. I hope not, but the hairs stand on the back of my neck just thinking about it. Ive already begun to be prepared, starting with purchasing my bushmaster m4a3 last week. I am attempting to acquire bulk loads of .223 for a reasonable price. I have 10-15 cases of MRE's left over from hurricane gustav and water wont be hard to get. Anyone got a link to some decent russian bulk ammo?

But yeah guys things seem to get bleaker every year. This revolution in the middle east doesn't look like it will end well tbh. We are already walking a fine line with the muslims and all it is gonna take is for some radical to get the peoples attention and rise to power from all the chaos going on over there and we could all be in a world of shit.

saw Napolitano on tv saying threat is highest ever, and talkin about domestic recruitment. at first i was like oh thats BS. but a lil later i got to thinkin.....
say maybe ya got a miuddle class guy, had a middle management or factory job maybe. he got downsized, been outta work a long time. lost all the equity in his house cause property values have plummeted.
then maybe his wife or daughter have some sickness or need an expensive medical procedure, and his insurance went with the job so he cant afford it.
Enter Bob, your friendly jihad recruiter. Bob says-- my friend, if you will sacrifice yourself against this regime that has failed you so badly, we will make sure your daughter geta treatment, and can live a long life in the better world you will help usher in.

with that in mind, extremists recruiting non muslim westerners suddenly didnt seem so unbelievable.

It's alright to be a little nervous and yes, it makes me a bit nervous. too. Consequently, I needed to do something.

So, I have already setup an emergency plan for my immediate family. We know what to do and where to go, if something bad happens. My extended family is also very aware of the plans.

We have discussed home emergency kits (Guns, Supplies, Food, Water, etc.). Basically, a "Bug out Bag" on steroids. I would guess my relatives are at 60-70% compliance on the kits. Food on hand is the biggest issue (e.g. no one, but me have purchased MREs), but they have concentrated on canned goods.

My biggest worry is some Islamic or home-grown terrorist opening up with an AK at a restaurant/mall and/or sporting event. Since IL has no CCW ( WI and IL are the only states which do NOT allow CCW),  I feel naked and helpless at these "targets"...I am now particularly aware of events and people around me.

I also should mention that I was at least 5 minutes from arriving at Salt Lake City Trolley Square mall in 2007, when that piece of shit punk opened up on the shoppers.  Google it.  I was staying at a hotel a few blocks away and had decided to do dinner there.  It still makes me shudder to remember that day.

In the following weeks, I was taking the Utah CCW class at a local gun shop and carrying as soon as my permit arrived.  Let just say this event enhanced my need for training and additional weaponry.

Be prepaired. Be ready.  Don't be a victim. All good points. Becides what's the harm in getting some extra water and food. Don't depend on the USG to "save you"........

That was a terrible thing.  I live about 40 minutes from this mall.  It sure made me think about all the places like that that someone could do major damage to property AND people.

I have a pretty good storage and we are very capable of taking care of ourselves for as long as need be....  and a quick mountain get-a-away...on horseback if need be...

Over here we'v been warned about Mumbai style attacks. Which is pretty scary as the only people who could counter that are armed police and their arent many on duty at one time, apart from London.

Was talking to a Police officer who works in my office and she was telling me we dont want to know the stuff they are intercepting or managing to stop (the stuff that doesnt make the news) as it would scare the shit out of you. Makes you wonder..

i love how that site says nothing about guns. And i live about 10 miles away from charlotte NC, its the banking capital of the south, and where Bank of america has it's headquarters. I remember after 9/11 the military had a few Humvee's with SAMs on the back around the city. I think if i had to bail quick id head north west.

CDC now has commercials on the radio all the time talking about flood water and what to eat and or drink when it comes in contact with flood water and how to store your food so rats and mice cannot get to it.

ALL day on the radio and the reason I know is because I stream radio while sitting at my desk at work for 8 hours a day.
